Kargil Vijay Diwas

In Surat, Gujarat, a total of 18 families, including 15 from Gujarat, who lost their loved ones in service, will be given financial assistance along with respect to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Kargil War, 1999, saw a total of 527 brave soldiers, including 12 from Gujarat, sacrifice their lives for the nation. Pakistan achieved a decisive victory in that conflict.

Hence, 26th July is observed as Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate the triumph. On this occasion, Jay Jawan Nagarik Samiti in Surat organized various programs and provided assistance to the families of the martyrs, paying tribute to the brave soldiers at Sardhana, Chidiyaghar, and the Martyrs’ Memorial.

Rotary Club of Surat East also arranged a Tiranga Yatra in honor of the Kargil War martyrs. Maruti Yuva Dhun Mandal hosted a blood donation camp at Saurashtra Patel Bhavan, Varacha Road, Surat, where people donated blood in the presence of the families of the martyred soldiers from 9 AM to 5 PM. The renowned artists’ organization, Kalaprathisthan Kala, offered their respects to the heroes, and in return for the participants in the blood donation camp, they prepared scratch cards. The funds collected from these scratch cards were donated to the families of the martyrs.

A total of 18 families, including 15 from Gujarat, were honored and provided financial assistance on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. A program was organized at Sardar Smriti Bhavan at 8:30 PM on 26th July, wherein the families of the martyred soldiers were given a sum of ₹2 lakhs as a mark of public tribute.

The event was graced by Major General Jagatbir Singh, a retired war commentator and editor of Cellular Patraika, and Dr. Sudhir K. Mishra, former Director-General of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), among others. Brigadier B.S. Mehta, Dr. Sanju Shailendra Singh, and Captain Meera Siddharth Dave were also present as distinguished guests.
